So our great voyage to Sweden has ended. It's been a lot of ups and
downs, but the one thing that is unmistakable is the fact that we have
made some solid progress.
For those of you who have been
listening to the latest edition world-famous Bionic Commando podcast,
you probably are aware that we will not be hitting our estimated May
release date.
I apologized there but again, allow me to say that
I am sorry. Everyone is working around the clock both in Japan and
Sweden trying to get this into your hot little hands. I promise the
wait will be worth it and even Jaqub (one of Grin's testers) has
promised that he will eat *FIDDLESTICKS* if this game doesn't get an
average of 9 out of 10. That's some serious confidence but I have to
say that it will certainly be one of the highest-scoring XBLA/PSN/PC
games out there and certainly one with the best value for money. So
please bear with us a little longer.
While in Sweden Grin showed
us off the new lighting system they've got up and running. WOW!!! What
a difference nice lighting makes! Usually you see changes on a much
smaller level. A new map is added here, a character model changes
there, enemy locations change a bit... However, changing the lighting
makes a huge difference and the games looks very, very nice.
I'll
be honest, I had my doubts about the graphics in the beginning (sorry,
but I have been raised on the aesthetically pleasing Japanese games)
but now I am not worried a bit. Plenty of colors, nice realism, great
textures. It's taken a while to get here but if you compare the new
stuff with what we showed in October, it is a night and day difference.
I know the wait for BCR is painful but there will be some nice
announcements
to help soothe your pain over the next few weeks. One of them will be
involving the music (oh yeaaaaah!) but for now try to "hang" in there a
little bit longer.
Cheers,
Ben

Release timing
Although I'm anticipating the release of this game more than MGS4, how many others are also? I'm not trying to sound mean or unappreciative or anything, but in an earlier podcast you said that you'll need to sell a lot of this game to make a profit. I'm sure you will. But if this game is released after June 12th, you'll be indirectly competing with MGS4 on the PlayStation 3 platform. And in your last podcast you had to make up a reason as to why the game hadn't been released yet. Which means there wasn't a good reason. Like I said I think this is going to be one of the best games ever and I appreciate all the work that goes into it. But I think the longer you leave it, theres a less chance of people buying it due to another worldwidely anticipated game in June.Unless of course you've already put games like MGS4 into the calculation and have come up with a gobsmackingly great release strategy ;) In that case, I'll leave my worrys at the foot of the cross.
Cheers

Cool!
Sounds great i can't wait to play it. Exciting with the music too :oMusic
The music is great. Like what you have done with the song hero of the past. But am I the only one who can't play the songs "AREA01 (NES)" and "Heat wave"?
Yes
..I have. I guess Its just me then. Hopefully I will figure out whats wrong.P.S When you(Ben) write "It's been a lot of ups and downs" I get an image of two parents fighting ;)!
Parents fighting
Surprisingly enough there are a fair share of those type of moments as well. When you get a room for of creative people all wanting to make the best game possible there are invariably a large amount of disagreements. Throw Marketing, 1st party, publishers, developers, ratings organizations into that mix... and yeah, we have a lot of "parents fighting".
