Joseph Gibson - or "Super Joe" - is the Director of the military intelligence agency TASC, and the man in charge of supervising Nathan Spencer's mission in Ascension City.
As a decorated soldier in the FSA military, Joseph Gibson was known as "The Supervisor" for his leadership abilities and meticulous attention to detail. After excelling as a commando in many behind-the-lines missions, "Super Joe", as he had become to be known, left the military to pursue a career in private military contracting, teaming up with fellow former officers Howard Powell and Thomas Clarke in a team known as MERCs.
Following the dissolution of the short-lived team, Joe moved to into government work with TASC, where his leadership abilities were quickly noticed. Joe was entrusted with the supervision of TASC's Bionic Research and Development Program, where he met Nathan Spencer and assisted in the development of his prototype bionic arm.
During the attack of the Imperials, Joe was sent behind enemy lines by TASC to investigate the Imperial plot known as Project Albatross. However, Joe's mission was a failure, and Joe was captured and taken prisoner. After months of imprisonment and daily torture, Joe was rescued by his "protégé" Spencer. Together they succeeded in dealing a deadly blow to the Imperial war machine.
Joe returned home and was celebrated as a hero, shortly afterwards becoming Director of TASC. Having witnessed the success of Spencer's rescue mission, Joe rapidly expanded the Bionics Program, enlisting dozens of new recruits to create new "bionic commandos". But public opinion soon turned against bionics, and Joe found himself fighting to defend the technology. In the power struggle, Joe found himself powerless to help Spencer when he was accused of treason and sentenced to death.
When bionic technology was outlawed by the government directive known as the Bionic Purge, much of TASC's power was lost. Following the bombing of Ascension City, the reactivation of Spencer for one more behind-the-lines assault is Joe's best chance for redemption.
