Ascension City
Nathan Spencer's mission takes place in the ruins of Ascension City, which has been laid to waste by a terrifying weapon of mass destruction.
Before the bombing, Ascension City was the pride of the Federal States of America (FSA) - one of its largest, newest and most technologically advanced cities, a city that showed the country's power to the world.
Ascension City has always had a turbulent past: when the Federation first came to power, the city was a mess, divided by crime, unemployment, racial tensions and cramped living conditions. The Federation used Ascension City as a model and inspiration for the rest of the country, rebuilding it from the ground up using radical new designs. In a few short years, Ascension City was transformed by massive housing and public transport projects, an extensive series of new highways, and a mass of towering multi-level dwellings that inspired the city's new name.
Although most government institutions were still housed in the capital, Ascension City came to be regarded as the 'first city' of the FSA, a prime example of what the spirit of the country could do. Ascension City was not a frontline during the attack of the Imperials, but the attack of BioReign on the city reduced it to a shell of concrete and steel. The bomb tore structures and roads apart, leaving empty carcasses of buildings with metal beams sticking out like ribs. Nothing has been left untouched; nothing is whole. Ascension City is dead.
